Dry January

You’re amazing, you’ve done it and we hope you’re really proud of yourself and that having a Dry January has given you something to think about for the rest of the year. See you in 2014!

You may be getting excited at the prospect of your first drink after 31 days, take your energy and use it on a climbing wall, yeah that’s right a climbing wall – it’s great fun honestly.

Make plans to keep yourself in the straight and narrow beyond January, join a gym or some kind of boot camp now and keep this shiny, new you going for longer.

Wow, did you ever think you’d get here? With just 4 days to go you have to make them count. Join a course and learn a new skill, cookery, photography, playing guitar. There’s a whole world out there.

Whether at home or on your break, today is perfect for a winter hike. Stop off at a cosy country pub, roast dinner with a glass of fizz – lemonade that is.

No break for you? Then this is your day to do something you’d love to do, from a sky dive to a bungee jump or something more sedate like a massage, this is your day.

Your last booze free weekend lies ahead. This is easy now but you really deserve a treat so book yourself a weekend break to relax, unwind and enjoy your clear state of mind!

Feeling bookish? Why not share your love of the written word by starting up a book club, a tea drinking, biscuit eating book club. Move over Richard and Judy.

Wednesday’s are tough whether it’s January or not. We’ve been told a bit of meditation can really open your mind and help you take things in your stride. Why not give it a whirl, cymbals at the ready.

You’re awesome, you’re great , you can do anything and you deserve a phenomenal holiday. Get on line and start planning your getaway. We are dreaming of white sand, warm sea and a hammock!

You’re well in to the challenge and feeling pretty pleased with yourself. Conjure up a culinary masterpiece in the kitchen or do some baking, we hear kneading dough is great fun.

What can you do, even the weather is telling you to stay at home and relax. Once you’re done making snowballs head inside for a hot bath to chill your bones as some good food, lovely!

So you’d made great plans to keep yourself distracted this weekend but the weather has changed all that. Frosty the snowman is calling you, pull out your sledge and your inner 7 year old for some snowy fun!

Weekend 3 and this is getting easy now. Enjoy the crispness of winter by joining friends for some evening ice skating. Exercise + no booze = smug on Saturday morning.

OK so not really that epic..why not do that thing, that fiddly bit of DIY you’ve been putting off, you know that thing back there that no one else can see but you know it needs sorting..do it!

It’s cold, very very cold so this is a night to stay in. Crank up the heating, stick on your onesie and dig out the board games. Was it Miss Scarlet in the pool room with the candlestick?

Try a new way of socialising on a week night and join a sports club. Whatever you fancy, from badminton to yoga from archery to trampolining there’s a sports club with your name on it. Leotard at the ready!

You’ve made it, you’ve cracked it, welcome to the new, determined you! It’s still only Monday, so take it easy. Time to experiment with your hot drink making skills. Hot chocolate anyone?

Hopefully you’re starting to feel a little brighter, lighter and cheery. Riding high on your energy, head out for a walk somewhere nice, countryside or city. You may even break in to a skip!? And keep going – you’re nearly two weekends down.

You’ve been working hard, so surely it’s time to reward yourself. If you can bear the crowds and fights over jumpers you never wanted anyway you should head off to the sales. There are bargains to be had we hear.

We’re back here again but now you know you can do it. Get yourself some support, rope in others going dry for a come dine with me style night in. You can mark each others mocktails…

Hooray, you’re ten days in! Nothing can stop you now! They say writing can be therapeutic so why not set up a blog to help you get through the month? Use it to chart your spectacular success on the Dry January challenge.

The midweek hump can be a challenge but it’s good news time, if you’re laying off the booze you should be saving some money. Think about setting that aside so you can treat yourself with your new found wealth.

So the weekend was tough, be kind to yourself by getting cosy on the sofa. Pull on your slippers and feel mellow in front of the fire with a TV box set or a good book. No fire? Break out the candles. Go on, you’ve earned it.

You’re in to your stride now having broken that first weekend. How about an extra dollop of feel good factor by finding yourself a bit of voluntary work to keep you occupied. Think how warm and fuzzy you’ll feel.

You know that Sunday roast for friends and family you were always going to cook but had to cancel due to being stuck to the sofa feeling rougher than a badger’s bum – today that roast gets cooked!

Wow, we bet you are feeling epic this morning. Your new type of weekend starts here, the world is your hangover free oyster. We’ll be heading out for afternoon tea with chums, one does feel rather smug!

This is a tough one, your first Friday night boozeless. Avoid drink by heading off to the cinema, there’s bound to be a Boxing Day blockbuster to occupy your wonderfully sober head and you can get a pint of popcorn.

You may need a drop of fresh air to blow the cobwebs out. Take your dog, or borrow someone else’s and go throw it some sticks – dog lovers swear by it for making you feel good.

Still off work? Then get yourself some culturesville. The UK is stuffed to the rafters with museums, galleries and sites of historic interest. Go on, you’ll feel so much cleverer.

Hoorah, you’re dry, drink is off the menu . You need to ease yourself in, don’t make any sudden moves, stick on Top Gun and let the afternoon drift over you – feel the need for speed – from the kettle to the sofa.
